Join UsThe Cambridge Investment Banking Society (CIBS) gives Cambridge students opportunities to learn more about careers in the industry, build long-lasting networks, and ultimately secure highly competitive roles on insight, internship, and graduate programmes at investment banks. We have three core values which our events and initiatives aim to facilitate.
Collaboration lies at the heart of our ethos — we believe that linking students across diverse backgrounds and subjects is the strongest way of ensuring that students are able to continually add to their networks, strengthen their skill sets, and develop the financial knowledge necessary to break into industry.
We recognise that investment banking is a unique industry, and so by focusing its aims, CIBS is able to provide application advice, events, and workshops with a high level of industry specificity.
We hope that our members feel connected with other students across Cambridge who share their interest in careers at investment banks. We are incredibly excited to build a close-knit community, and so we encourage all those who might be interested in a career at an investment bank, from IBD to Human Resources to Technology, to join our society.
Membership is free and open to everyone from all backgrounds and disciplines at the University of Cambridge.
We aim to hold a wide range of events to benefit our members. This includes talks and networking events to provide valuable insights into the investment banking industry and broaden the financial knowledge of our member base. We also hold events targeted at application preparation, including panel discussions and application workshops.
There are a number of roles available at investment banks, and we recognise that a great deal can be learnt from listening to, and engaging with, those who are already in the industry. CIBS holds talks from external speakers in addition to smaller, intimate networking events. Our events allow our members to develop stronger relationships with each other, and learn from industry professionals.
Investment Banking is a competitive industry and breaking into the industry requires a great deal of preparation. With this aim in mind, CIBS holds a number of events aimed at upskilling its members and preparing them for insight and internship application cycles. From spring week and summer internship application panels to CV workshops and technical workshops, our events give our members a competitive edge in the application process.
The CIBS Mentorship Scheme facilitates collaboration between students across Cambridge, ensuring that knowledge is passed down from one year to the next, and that students from a diverse range of subject backgrounds have access to application support. Our Scheme really focuses on the value of giving back. We hope that the mentees who benefit from our scheme feel inspired to go on and become valuable mentors to future applicants, building a strong and lasting community.
All CIBS members receive our biweekly newsletter, the “CIBS Roundup”, which contains information on our events and initiatives as well as a featured tip, useful resources, and links to other opportunities of relevance. We also release biweekly CIBS Research Group newsletters, recapping financial news coverage and insights from our Research Group's articles. Our newsletters are a valuable resource to keep up to date with CIBS and all the opportunities we have to offer.
A warm welcome from our committee! We strive to build a close-knit community of ambitious Cambridge students and to use this platform to provide our members with resources and opportunities to learn more about careers at investment banks. We're super excited to have you be a part of our society and we hope you're looking forward to our upcoming events and initiatives as much as we are!
